More than 12 Pyramix and 30 VCubes have been supplied for the main Paris facility already.

Technical Manager for Dubbing Brothers, Pol Simon explained, “With respect to the above elements, Pyramix Virtual Studio for audio workstations and VCube for video players were the solution of choice, all integrated and connected together via a high availability central server and storage system. In fact, as these workstations are available in several configurations, Pyramix and VCube meet our efficiency requirements in each situation, including regular daily tasks such as ingest, editing, multitrack recording and file conversion, to name a few.”

Philippe Taïeb, president and CEO of Dubbing Brothers remarked that, “Ultimately, all of our existing Studios in Paris and in the greater Paris area, as well as our facilities in both Belgium and Italy will also benefit from this networked technology.”

" On a not entirely unrelated note, Twickenham Film Studios recently undertook the first High-Definition dub in the UK when deploying VCube
- Merging Technologies' video hard-disk-based video player/recorder system designed specifically for use in audio post-production - in advance of its final release on director Jean-Paul Salomé's French thriller Arsène Lupin. "It's fantastic quality - the fact that you've got virtual 35mm quality from a hard disk video machine with instant access, and it seems to make the sound better," enthuses Nieder.
"Fortunately, the interface for the VCube was so similar to Pyramix that I was able to buzz my way through getting it running in sync, even though it was beta equipment from France. When we first fired it up with the Hi-Def projector I thought, 'I've seen the future.' We've got to seriously think about it, because there's no doubt in my mind that it will become the de facto standard."

“The two systems (Pyramix & VCube) are so interactive that it is like operating one machine....
...(The) picture changes can be inserted without having to digitise the whole episode, the picture can be copied and pasted to different timecodes, a feature used frequently in commercial work, two layers can be run on the screen, allowing picture changes to be checked and online pictures to be checked against the reference offline.
In addition, the picture locator is an excellent memory aid, timecode can be overlaid on pictures, which is useful for client reference in viewing mixes and the PAL output is able to run the client monitor."

Czech National TV has recently bought 17 of Merging Technology’s VCube hard disk video player/recorders for its post-production department. The machines, supplied by Merging’s SI Dealer Interlab, are all connected using a 1Gb Ethernet network to a central multi-terabyte central storage via two RAID servers.

The whole audio post production facility currently uses 12 Fairlights and has a Dolby equipped dubbing theatre with custom built ADRs for dubbing which use the VCubes for synching pictures. Czech TV currently broadcasts on two terrestrial channels and several satellite channels.

For Czech TV, Engineer Mr Peukert Otakar said "Everything is running fine, our engineering staff were surprised at how quickly endusers got used to the VCube, VTRs are forgotten for ever and a return back to them would probably not be accepted. Version 1.2. was installed as an experiment on two of the suites and looks like it is doing well... Bravo Merging!"
